Shuso Hossen-Shiki Ceremony with Koan Discussion

The head monk entering ceremony traditionally takes place at the start of a formal Ango or ninety day practice period. The Shuso Hossen-Shiki ceremony follows at the end of the Ango. It includes the Shuso publically discussing a Koan from the history of Zen and Hossen (Dharma Combat) question & response exchange between the Shuso and Sangha members. Ungan, sensei has chosen the Mumonkan # 29— "Hui Neng’s Flag"

Sunday, May 25, 2021 10:30 AM (EST) Sensei Elliston and Sensei Ungan Bill Mayhew will have a discussion related to Koan will be Mumonkan # 29— "Hui Neng’s Flag" and the community will be able to ask Ungan Bill Mayhew questions and offer their congratulations.
