Dharma Talk Topic: "Studying East Asian Calligraphy---Tapping into One's Life Force"
Brush calligraphy is a 3000 year-old art form originated in China. It is considered one of the high arts along with poetry and music. My teacher, Kazuaki Tanahashi, says, "Cultivation of profound realization and a wholesome way of life is the ultimate practice of calligraphy."
Shodo (calligraphy) embodies both the technical skill of the calligrapher and 'seisaku', the spiritual qualities of applying the brush with all of one's heart. Please join me for an open discussion of this ancient art form and a discovery of our selflessness through the endless practice of brushwork.
