ASZC was founded over 40 years ago by Abbot Zenkai Taiun Michael Elliston and is the only Zen Buddhist practice and retreat center in the Southeast. Open to the public six days, and evenings, each week, this non-profit center provides a supportive meditative environment through various programs, retreats, and lectures. It also has a long history of engaging and hosting community service collaborations including Mercer University, Emory University, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta Public Broadcasting, and Interfaith discussions, while supporting His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyasto's visit to Atlanta in 2007.

ASZC is the head temple, training center, and Hub of the Silent Thunder Order (STO) where members come from all over North America and Europe to attend its programs. Currently, there are 19 affiliate sanghas (congregations) of STO serving some 2000 people in the US and Canada, that look to ASZC for training. A conservative estimate of the number of people taking advantage of what has and is being offered in this Center since it beginning in 1977 would exceed 10,000.

Please join us in celebration of all who have come before and those yet to be exposed to the “Zen” experience. We look forward to seeing you on July 15!
